Working in Worcester

I’ve been at The Hanover Theatre for about three months now, and the first question I get when I meet someone new is “What do you do there?” With my dry sense of humor, I enjoy answering, “I’m a stalker.” What I mean by that is that a key part of what I do is track your basic activities online so I can target advertising and emails to your specific interests. Of course, I do a lot more than digital advertising and email newsletters. I’m also slowly taking over press relations, rebuilding the theatre’s blog, reorganizing the website, managing social media and assisting in various tasks (I can go into specifics in a later post). It’s not quite what I expected, and yet it’s so much more.

Being a part of a larger organization and a real marketing team is a learning process and a big step forward for me, both in my career and for me as a person. The theatre is a very positive environment with goals, employee appreciations, opportunities for socializing and so on. I’m learning how to communicate with others. I’m learning that I can get a talking-to for mistakes without feeling like a horrible person. I’m learning how best to organize. I’m learning the importance of documentation and proofreading and, above all, taking notes!

And for those of you wondering what the answer is to the second-most common question I get, yes, I do get free tickets to certain shows.
